What is CVV2?
What is CVV2?

CVV2 is an important security feature for credit card transactions on the Internet and over the phone. "CVV" stands for "Card Verification Value" (Discover Card calls it the "Cardmember ID"). The CVV2 number enhances fraud protection and helps to validate two important elements:

• The customer has the credit card in his or her possession.
• The credit card number is legitimate.

We appreciate your time and effort in entering your card's CVV2 number. Doing so helps to prevent credit card fraud and ultimately reduces credit card transaction costs for everyone. Thank you.

Visa, MasterCard, and Discover Cards

For Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards, the Card Verification Value is the three-digit number printed in the signature space on the back of the card. The CVV2 number is always the last group of three numbers in the signature space and is not part of your regular credit card number.

American Express Cards

For American Express cards, the Card Verification Value is the four-digit number on the front of the card. It is printed flat and is not embossed like the card number.
